Orphaned at birth by one of Shafta’s merciless Purges, Sali is a beautiful child watched over by his uncle, Patch. He knows nothing of his past, and makes the most of every day, happy to please. Taken under the werewolf Kristoff‘s proverbial wing at Patch’s untimely death, he flourishes under the attentive care and safety that Kris provides, and loves to follow Kris and fellow Shaftan Remy about on their duties and imitate them. A vibrant and endearing little Shaftan, he collects shells, jewelry, and other shiny objects like a packrat, and stores his treasures in a small cave near the sea. When Julian‘s household leaves Shafta in pursuit of Luke, and establishes itself in a lofty mansion high in the mountains of another realm, Sali adjusts easily to the change and finds a whole new world of treasures awaiting his discovery. Greeting each new day with unprecedented enthusiasm, eventually even the mansion cannot contain his curiosity. Soon after he reaches adulthood, when his fluffy wings become long and sleek, he and Kris part ways, and Sali ventures bravely out to make a new life for himself.
